Types of Testing Offered by DES:
We are growing and constantly adding capabilities!
|

ESS
Environmental Stress Screening (ESS) is applied during the production process to improve reliability and reduce warrantee costs. ESS is a screening method used to precipitate and find defects thus exposing manufacturing process problems that would cause a failure in normal field environments including shipping, storage and use. DES is capable of performing MIL-HDBK-2164.
Equipment Capabilities:
- Temperature Range of -100°C to +200°C (-148 °F to +400 °F)
- Temperature Rate of Change up to 60°C/minute
- Random Vibration beyond 50 Grms & 0 - 3,000 Hz Frequency Range
- Custom Production ESS Fixtures Designed & Built
Why Choose DES for ESS?
- We have the experience & equipment required to execute a successful ESS program.
- Manufacturers are currently subcontracting their ESS to DES with great success.
- We are capable of handling high volume projects.
- It may be more economical and efficient for DES to perform your ESS since we already have the specialized equipment and facilities in place.
- We can provide total process and data management in production. We will conform to your quality and reporting requirements including supplying pass/fail certificates with every product.

Accelerated Life & Environmental Testing
Under normal conditions it may take years to gather
failure data on new products. Through accelerated
stress testing the overall time to failure
can be reduced to weeks by increasing the frequency
of the field loads and by removing insignificant
stress components. In addition, a life test
on a product can be reduced or accelerated
dramatically by increasing the stress levels
to higher than normal. Accelerated Life Testing
can reduce test time from weeks to days while
still achieving satisfactory results saving
both time and money.
DES provides customized
test services. We can:
- Analyze your test needs
- Design a custom Accelerated Life Test using different environments such as temperature, humidity, vibration, electrical, wear, etc.
- Perform the Accelerated Life Test
- Analyze the test results and report them in an easy to understand format

| |
Altitude (Vacuum) Testing
Altitude (Vacuum) testing is used to determine whether material can withstand the low pressure environment associated with high altitude or use in aircraft.
Equipment Capabilities:
- Altitude range to 80,000 ft (0.8 in Hg)
- Altitude combined with hot and cold temperatures
|
| |
Custom Testing
DES provides customized bench test and measurement services. After conducting
the test, we have the tools and experience
to analyze the data and offer solutions to your problems.
All of our instruments are maintained and calibrated
traceable to NIST standards.
Major Testing Capabilities Include:
- Custom Testing/Test Fixtures
- Small Component Fatigue Testing
- Performance Verification
- Load, Strain, Displacement, Velocity, or Acceleration Data Acquisition
- Field Problem Reproduction and Solution
- Material Strength Validation

Fixtures
Let DES design and make your specialized test fixtures. We have designed and built many successful HALT, HASS, vibration, and custom test fixtures. We work with very skilled local machine shops and fabricators that can weld or machine many types of metals such as aluminum, magnesium, stainless steel, and carbon steel.
Fixture Capabilities Include:
- Custom Mechanical or Electronic Test Fixtures
- HALT or production HASS test fixtures
- Vibration Test Fixtures
- Create Custom Testing Equipment

Highly Accelerated Stress Test (HAST)
HAST (Highly Accelerated Stress Test) reduces
the time it takes to complete humidity testing by increasing
temperatures above 100°C and increasing the atmospheric
pressure. Normal humidity tests can be completed in days,
not weeks while maintaining the same failure mechanisms.
Equipment Capabilities:
- Temperature range from 105°C to 150°C (221°F to 302°F)
- Humidity Range from 75% to 100%
- Max Pressure of 56 psig

Temperature and Humidity

ESPEC Humidity
Chamber DES can perform Temperature & Humidity, High Temperature, Low Temperature and Temperature Cycle Testing. Humidity testing will accelerate and expose corrosion problems in your product. High Temperature and Low Temperature testing are meant to test the durability of your product for long term storage or use in these environments. Temperature cycling between high and low temperatures will create accelerated thermal fatigue of solder joints, seals, and connections in your product.
Equipment Capabilities:
- Multiple temperature & humidity test chambers
- Temperature range from -70°C to +180°C (-95°F
to +356°F)
- Temperature rate of change up to 20°C/minute
- Low and High Humidity Ranges from 10°C & 10%
to 85°C & 98%

Impact and High G Shock Testing
Impact or High G Shock Accomplished with Drop Tower.
Impact Capabilities:
- Maximum Impact Velocity of 250 in/sec (21 ft/sec)
- Impact Head Weights of less than 1 lb to 50 lb
- Maximum Impact Energy of 3,600 in-lb (300 ft-lb)
- Many Differently Shaped Impact Heads Available
High G Shock Capabilities:
- Maximum Acceleration of 5,000 G
- Shock Pulse Duration Range of .2 Msec to 60 Msec
- Sine, Square, and Saw tooth Shock Waveforms

MEOST
Multiple Environment Over Stress
Testing (MEOST) is a test program that uses a combined environment of extreme stresses
to quickly expose your product’s design and manufacturing weaknesses. Typical stresses include
temperature, vibration, electrical, and humidity. In MEOST, the durability of your product is
tested for each individual stress, and also for the combined interaction of all stresses. By
performing MEOST, you will be able to ensure that your product is rugged before it goes to the
market.
|
| |
Package Testing
Typical Tests Include: ISTA, ASTM D999, D4169 and D4728.
Equipment Capabilities:
- Random or Sinusoidal Vibration
- Drop Testing
- Environmental Conditioning
- Package Compression Testing
|
| |
Salt Fog
Salt Fog Testing is used to determine the corrosion resistance of paints, finishes and electrical connections. Typical tests include ASTM, MIL-STD-810F and RTCA/DO – 160.
Equipment Capabilities:
- Various Salt Concentrations
- Temperature Control and Humidity
|
| |
Shock (Pyroshock, Ballistic Shock, SRS)
Pyroshock (Pyrotechnic Shock) or Ballistic Shock are tests that simulate shock forces from the firing of projectiles, missiles or rockets. Shock Response Spectrum (SRS) analysis is available to measure the acceleration as a function of frequency and the total energy of the applied shock pulse.
